For those OWL customers who have started using Skype for Business, you have probably noticed the new user interface. I have been using Skype for Business Online for over a week now. I personally think that the new UI is a benefit to end users. Many users are already familiar with the Skype UI because they use it in their personal lives. So having a very similar UI for Skype for Business makes it easier for them to adopt the technology at work. The new UI is clean, familiar, and very intuitive.
For whatever reason, some users may not be ready to adopt the new Skype for Business UI. The good news is that Microsoft has provided a way for users to upgrade the Skype Client, but continue using the Lync Online UI. To enable this behavior, add the following registry key to the client:
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSSOFTWAREMicrosoftOfficeLync
Name : EnableSkypeUI
Data Type : REG_BINARY
Value : 00 00 00 00
To force Skype for Business to use the new UI, add the following registry key to the client:
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSSOFTWAREMicrosoftOfficeLync
Name : EnableSkypeUI
Data Type : REG_BINARY
Value : 01 00 00 00
