Announcing Automatic Configuration of Email Profiles for iOS and Windows Phone

​H Tech Solutions is pleased to announce the availability of email profiles in ODS.  ODS can now deploy a policy to an iOS or Windows Phone device that automatically configures an Exchange ActiveSync email profile.  This profile tells the device how to connect to the corporate email server on-premises or in the cloud. 

ODS email profiles eliminate the need for the end user to manually configure his device to access corporate email.  This reduces the number of support calls to your helpdesk and prevents end user frustration.  ODS email profiles are a great way to ensure that your users remain productive on their mobile devices by keeping them connected to their work email securely. 

ODS email profiles required the following in order to function correctly:

1) A device running iOS 5+ or Windows Phone 8+

2) An email server running Exchange or Office 365 Exchange Online

The following settings are applicable to both Windows Phone and iOS:

  • Schedule: This provides the ability to select the schedule by which devices will synchronize data from Exchange

The following settings are applicable only to Windows Phone:

  • Content type to synchronize: Email, contacts, calendar or task

The following settings are applicable only to iOS devices:

  • Allow messages to be moved to other email accounts: This allows users to move email messages between different accounts they have configured on their device.
  • Allow email to be sent from third-party applications: This option allows users to send email from a non-default, third-party email application.
  • Synchronize recently used email addresses: This feature allows users to synchronize the list of email addresses that have been recently used on the device.

ODS can perform a full wipe of the mobile device in the event that a device is lost or stolen.  ODS can perform a selective wipe of the device in the event that a user leaves the organization.  This allows the user to keep his personal data while still removing corporate email.  In order for selective wipe to work properly, the corporate email profile must have been provisioned by ODS.  If the corporate email profile was manually provisioned, it will not be removed following a selective wipe.
