Prior to the acquisition by Microsoft, Skype was a standalone program which which was updated via a manual download or an automatic update to the Skype client. The way that Skype was updates resembled most other software applications.
Once Microsoft acquired Skype, they made updates to the Skype client available via Microsoft Update. This means that Skype updates automatically with other Microsoft applications. This is a very convenient and secure way to keep Skype up-to-date.
As a result of this engineering decision, H Tech Solutions will no longer deploy and update Skype via ODS software deployment. Instead, Skype will be updated via the ODS automatic approval settings. This means that the version of Skype that is deployed via ODS will be determined by the latest version that Microsoft makes available via Windows Upate.
